The exotic 2012 François Villard, Les Contours de Deponcins

I have just a short post for this morning as my in-flight network connection is brutally slow.  The 2012 François Villard, Les Contours de Deponcins follows in the shadow of the superb 2011 vintage.  The 2012 vintage was aromatic and flavorful but it was immediately apparent that it did not have the lively acidity of the previous vintage.  It did prove to be an exotic start to several evenings in a row.  This wine was purchased at MacArthur Beverages.

2012 François Villard, Les Contours de Deponcins, Viognier – $27
Imported by Elite Wines Imports.  This wine is 100% Viognier sourced from young vines located on soils of granitic sand and mica just outside of Condrieu.  It was raised mostly in used and new oak barrels along with stainless steel.  Alcohol 13.2%.  The color was a medium gold-tinged yellow that matched the persistent nose of exotic floral aromas.  In the mouth were rounded and dense flavors of tropical fruit and nuts.  The wine was seamless with minimal texture, presenting a sense of richness.  At first the acidity enlivened the flavorful wine before falling into a supportive role.  Nuts pervaded the aftertaste.  *** Now-2016.
