The delightfully aromatic Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Michel Juillot

There is so much to drink out there that I am late to the game on this lovely wine from Domaine Michel Juillot.  This site may not be awash in tasting notes but for what does show up you can be assured that I followed the wine to the bottom of the bottle. That is exactly what I did with the 2012 Domaine Michel Juillot, Bourgogne but I would have been content just smelling the wine.  I can understand the result of fruity aromas in a wine but when a young wine smells as good as this bottle, I am beguiled.  I suggest you pick up a few bottles, one to smell now and the rest to drink after a few years.  This wine was purchased at Weygandt Wines.

2012 Domaine Michel Juillot, Bourgogne – $22
Imported by Weygandt-Metzler.  This wine is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from vines planted in 1974 and 1989 on clay and limestone soils.  It as for 12 months in used oak barrels.  Alcohol 12.5%.  The nose was immediately aromatic with earth, mineral infused black and red fruit.  In the mouth were tart and light black fruit flavors, some citric tannins in the finish, and a generally good, young flavor.  The nose was less earthy on the second night but the flavors opened up some more, maintaining the attractive tartness.  **(*) 2016-2022.
