The Beautifully Perfumed 2009 Vizcarra, Senda del Oro, Roble

Vines at Bodegas Vizcarra, Image by Bodegas Vizcarra

I periodically purchase unfamiliar wines  simply because they are new to me and are reasonably priced.  Such is the case with this bottle by Bodegas Vizcarra.  We recently pulled the cork and were immediately surprised by how beautiful it smelled.  After a few sips we were smiling because it tasted just as good.  This is an excellent wine that I encourage you to try.  It is imported by OLE and available for $15 at MacArthurs .  This is well worth the price.  I will certainly buy more.

2009 Bodegas Vizcarra, Senda del Oro Roble, Ribera del Duero
This wine is 100% Tempranillo sourced from vineyards in the town of Membrilla which are located at an altitude of 2800 feet.  The vines average 28 years of age.  The fruit is fermented in stainless steel than aged for seven months in two-year old French and American oak.  There is a light+ floral nose of ripe black fruit.  In the mouth the beautiful black fruit is mixed with floral notes, enlivened with good acidity, and has a perfumed finish.  There is some grip to this wine with its juicy flavors, stones, and lip-coating tannins.  Though there is a lot of flavor, it is balanced, elegant, and drinking perfectly right now. *** Now-2015.
