2009 La Bastide St. Dominique, Les Argiles Rouge, Cotes du Rhone

We loved the 2007 vintage of this wine.  So much so that we drank cases upon cases of it.  We tried a bottle of the 2008 but even at the lower price of $12.99 we passed on more.  Then the 2009 arrived at MacAthur’s for $14.99.   We tried a bottle and it is lovely as well!

Les Argiles Rouge is a special bottling for the importer.  It is a blend of mostly Grenache with some Syrah, M0urvedre, and Carignan from a single, older vineyard located next to the Chateauneuf du Pape border.  It is tank aged.

In the glass this is a light+ ruby color with purplish hints. The nose has a light+ intensity of mixed red and blue fruits.  With air, creamy blue fruit coat the mouth.  There is a perfumed lavender/floral quality that changes into dark blue fruits in the aftertaste.  The fine tannins come out early showing the structure of the wine.  There is a little bit of heat if it warms up.   Highly recommended.  You can drink this now or better yet, cellar it for a few years.  *** Now-2017.
